Heron in the Dark

A grey heron wades through near-black water, lit by a single sliver of light that carves its long neck and dagger bill out of the shadows. A fine-art, almost monochrome study of patience. Fun fact: Grey herons hunt by standing utterly motionless for minutes at a time, then striking in a fraction of a second — their S-shaped neck acts like a coiled spring to launch the bill at a fish.
