The Scaly Thrush

A scaly thrush (White's thrush) forages on the forest floor, its gold-and-black scalloped plumage melting perfectly into the leaf litter. Spot it and you've done well — this is a master of camouflage. Fun fact: The scaly thrush's crescent-marked plumage is thought to be one of the most effective camouflage patterns of any bird, breaking up its outline so thoroughly that it can feed in the open almost invisibly.
